Reprieve for NALI trade show?
A preliminary meeting has been held with the organisers of The Cleaning Show, a biennial promotion held in Birmingham, to discuss the possible inclusion of a coin-op and on-premise laundry event in 2009.
Small print reminder
Owners have been warned by NALI vice-chairman to read closely the small print in their insurance policies. A requirement in some is that lint traps are cleaned daily, and failure to do this result in a 'fire' claim (whether or not involving a lint trap) being rejected.
Guide to suppliers in 2008
The 1st-quarter 2008 issue (March) of Launderette and Cleaning World includes a comprehensive guide of distributors supplying the industry with new and used machines, financial and insurance services, and ancillary products.
DEATH OF NORTHERN LAUNDERETTE INDUSTRY VETERAN
It is with sadness that NALI reports the death, suddenly at his home in Manchester on 30th June, of Martin Wertheim, a launderette owner for almost 50 years and a highly respected maintenance/service engineer operating principally in the North West. A long-serving member of NALI's Council of Management, initially as an elected representative of MALA (the Manchester Area Launderette Association) and subsequently NOLA (the Northern Operators Launderette Association), he was in his 78th year.
EHOs OFFERED 'ASSOCIATE' MEMBERSHIP
Through their professional magazine Environmental Health News chief
environmental health officers have been 'challenged; by Mr. Joe Wayne, Chairman
of NALI's Health & Safety Committee, to take up 'Associate' membership of the
Association.
WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE
Could a privately-owned water bore-hole give launderette owners easier and
cheaper access to this essential business utility? On behalf of members, NALI is
investigating.
FEED-BACK ON CLEAN 07 EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS
A resume of some educational seminars planned for the CLEAN 07 Show in Las Vegas (11th to 14th June) - including Profitable Vend Prices Strategies For Successful Coin Laundries - will be published for the benefit of NALI members, later this year, in their quarterly journal Launderette and Cleaning World. The Association's 'in-attendance reporters' at the show will be NALI Vice-chairman Mary Simons and Council of Management colleague Sharon Gamble.
Solvent Emissions Directive
STATUTORY INSTRUMENT 2006 no.2311
The latest news from DEFRA on the Solvent Emissions Directive, insofar as it affects coin-op drycleaning machines that will not be used after 31st October 2007, is that the Amendments to the Regulations for which we have asked, were laid before Parliament on 29th August and have now been published. They come into force on 1st October. Please refer to the 2nd Quarter’s issue of this journal for more details of how NALI has successfully prosecuted this matter.
